Bob Finken - District III
Finken, elected in 2021, is currently serving his first term on the ND Dry Pea & Lentil Council representing pulse producers in north central North Dakota.
Finken from Douglas, ND took over the family farm right out of High School due to his father’s illness and disabilities. This year, 2021 will be Finken’s 44 crop year that he has been farming. Finken a fourth-generation farmer, farms with his wife DeAnne and his 2 of his grown children, Dylan and Holly (and their families) on his centennial farm started by his great grandfather in 1916. They have raised a variety of crops over the years, peas, chickpeas, canola, soybeans, oats, barley, corn, flax, durum, spring and winter wheat. They raise many of their crops for seed, and what the market calls for and have their own portable seed cleaners and treaters for their own use as well as for customers. In 2014 Finken started Finken Farm & Seeds, LLC.
Finken accepted the nomination for the position on the NDDPLC because he is a seasoned pulse producer and thought his knowledge could help the industry. Finken was also honored with the Northern Pulse Growers Association Excellence Award in 2020. He believes in and practices civic involvement ever since his days as a 4-H member. Finken has been involved in many organizations over the years and has been on many boards such as: ND and Ward County Farmers Union, Ward County Ag Improvement Association, Max FFA Alumni Association, NCREC Board of Visitors, and also township, school, and church boards. He is also one of the founders of Meridian Seeds and served many years on their board.
Finken has been married to DeAnne (Narum) Finken for 38 years, and has 4 grown children, Tracy, Holly, Katie, and Dylan. They have 7 grandchildren: Cainen, Emma, Conner, Kipton, Gavin, Chase and Calvin. As a hobby, Finken likes to collect and restored vintage Farmall tractors as well as cast iron seats, planter lids and drill box ends.
