Farstveet is a third-generation farmer and farms south of Beach with his son, Gunnar. In 1994, Rory started farming with his father, Keith, as a dairy and small grain operation. The farm transitioned away from a dairy focus with the introduction of pulse crops in 1996. Farstveet says that the pulse crops have played a vital role in both diversification and increased soil health and have added to the bottom line of the operation. The farm currently grows durum wheat, peas, lentils, and corn.
When not busy in the field, Rory and his family enjoy attending Dickinson State football games and spending time on the lake.
